Brian started all this. It’s his fault. He started looking into our family tree using Ancestry.com, the Internet, and sending letters/emails to people. He contacted my brothers and asked for help. My brother Jon [motto: "if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing"] began helping out, but quickly became hooked himself. Soon Jon and Brian had amassed a great deal of information, and wanted to put it online. So Jon asked me [motto: is it bedtime yet?] to help with that. Well, I suppose I could get up off the couch and lend a hand.
The family tree is displayed using PHPGedView software, an open source front end for a MYSQL database. PHPGedView may look a little intimidating at first, but it is very powerful and has many great features. You can search on names, look at photos, explore lineages, download data, etc.
The best thing to do is just play with it. Click on things and see what they do. Otherwise, click on the “help” button, then select “Wiki User’s Guide” and read how the various functions work.
An important point: as this is the public internet, showing data on living people has its risks. Therefore, data and pictures relating to living people will not be shown unless you have been given a username and password by me.
