The Louvre is absolutely massive. It's a "U" shaped building with several floors. The length of each hall varies depending on how far you are from a rest room and how badly you need to use it. It can be up to several miles long. This arch is the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, and it leads to the glass pyramid which is the main entrance. Note the tiny Amanda standing in front of the pyramid door. Lets go inside.
Three massive sculptures
After elbowing and punching my way through the throngs of tourists snapping pictures, I only managed to get one sorry-looking picture of the Mona Lisa. Brenda got a better picture, but the frame was cut off. So here's my attempt at putting the two together with Photoshop. Don't look too closely. I had always heard that the Mona Lisa was supposed to be so small, but it's about 20 X 30 inches - pretty good sized.
Amanda and the Venus de Milo. Again with the Photoshop. I took two pictures - one with a flash, the other without. Both sucked. In one, Amanda was so dark, you couldn't see her; in the other, Venus was washed-out. You're looking at a composite of the two. The Venus de Milo part was taken without the flash, and the Amanda part was taken with the flash.
Just one of many, many rooms in the Louvre. A person could spend months in this place. We saw quite a bit, but barely scratched the surface. We'll have to save it for another day. Let's go outside and walk around
